You probably read that title and thought where is this going…well, I’ll tell you! This weekend is the 13th annual Art Papers Auction on February 11 in Atlanta and yours truly will be volunteering as a bartender. I have done this a couple of times in the past with friends and it is always a lot of fun. Despite my questionable coordination, I have managed to fulfill my bartending responsibilities without angering the patrons of the arts by pouring their beverages all over them. Oh great, now I have probably jinxed myself…maybe I should just handle the money this year…. So moving on from my potential impending bartending mishaps, the Art Papers Auction is held each year to benefit Art Papers, a non-profit organization dedicated to the examination, development, and definition of art and culture in the world today. This year’s auction will showcase works by 275+ famed and emerging artists from around the world. It is an opportunity to see some really interesting art and if you are skilled at the ways of the silent auction, a good venue to add to your own art collection while helping a good cause. I myself always feel intimidated and get nervous about bidding. Maybe it’s because I’m a little competitive when it comes to games and auctions are kind of like a game and I want to win. Unfortunately, that is not a “win” for my financial standing so it’s best for me to keep my bidding at a controlled minimum. Thus far, I have yet to come home with anything so I guess I’m doing a pretty good job with that! However, I definitely encourage those of you that live in Atlanta to attend and take part in a little bidding.
And while I am talking about art, there is a great website for affordable art prints called Society6. The artwork on Society6 is created by thousands of artists from around the world and it is a great place to get really unique laptop skins, iPhone cases and such. A while back I was looking for an iPhone case and could not find anything worthy of purchase until I was introduced to this site through a co-worker. Definitely worth a look if you want to cover your gadgets with artistic expression. Here are a few prints to ponder:
